For the first time in this season's cup campaign, Lierse suffered defeat on Wednesday evening. Third division Racing Mechelen won 1-0 at home via a goal from Calicchio. The Oscar Vankesbeeck stadium was as full as in the old days. Racing Mechelen welcomed another tradition rich club in the form of Lierse. The two teams are the only non-first division sides left in the Cup.

On Wednesday evening Lierse play at Racing Mechelen in the 1st leg of the Quarter-Finals of the Belgian Cup. The coaching team are available again to call upon the services of Julien Thsiala, who was suspended last weekend.
