Jonas Heymans has on Tuesday evening reached agreement with Lierse for a two-year contract. Heymans is a 19-year old left footed defender. He can also play in central defence. Jonas Heymans had his formative years with AA Gent but moved to second division Wetteren to get more playing opportunities. Despite his young age, Jonas has already played 50 games for Wetteren. He has also won 23 caps with the national U-19 team, scoring one goal.

Heymans, who also attracted interest from OH Leuven and Dutch first division sides NEC and De Graafschap, outlined why he opted for Lierse.
Jonas Heymans: “I had a couple of good converstaions with trainer Chris Janssens and CEO Jesse De Preter, and we quickly came to an agreement. I had the feeling that Lierse want to give youth their chance, so as a young player you can't be anywhere better. I'm in any case 200% motivated to make something of my career here. I'm now hard at work to raise my level. I don't want to underestimate the step up from a team bottom of second division to a first division team.”
