In their first real meaningful pre-season match, Lierse drew 0-0 away at second division newcomers KSK Heist. Heist missed a penalty and hit the post twice. Lierse was unimpressive in terms of playing level and chances created. Debutant Kawashima was impressive, and only a super save from him denied Heist the winning goal.
Of the 2 newcomers from recent days, only Kawashima debuted, Davids remained behind in Liers ill.
In the first half Heist threatened via a shot from Van Der Mieren (ex-Lierse), Kujovic parried. Lierse only created a few half chances, but Douala, Radzinski and Job were unable to convert. At the other end Heist were awarded a penalty for handball against De Wree (ball to hand?). Webers fired the spot kick over the bar. Heist threatened again before the break, heading against the post from a corner.
At halftime Kawashima, Elgabas, Sekour, De Graef and a bit later Frans into the team. Thiebaut moved to the centre of defence. The first threat came again from Heist, but Kawashima was secure with the first save he had to make. Lierse countered with a De Graef free kick, just over. After that a header from Frans, but also his effort went over. Heist played some good combination football, and created better chances than Lierse. Cross from the right, Hendrickx header, but Kawashima kept it out with a fantastic save. Lierse applied more pressure in the closing stages of the match: firstly a fierce shot from De Greaf was well saved by keeper Olieslagers, Elgabas recuperated the ball, Radzinski through alone on Olieslagers, but again the keeper pulled off a fine save. Th last chance was for Heist, a nice shot from distance by Hendrickx striking the post.
So Lierse failed their first real test, and coach Anthuenis admitted as much after the match, in an interview with lierse.com, in which he also spoke about possible reinforcements.
