K. Lierse SK has late tonight managed to acquire the transfer of central defender Kurt Van Dooren. The 32-year old Van Dooren (b.3/08/78) comes from Germinal Beerschot and has signed a one year contract with Lierse. He was a Lierse youth product. After leaving the club, he went toj Hoogstraten and Berchem Sport, and then in 2003 followed his trainer at Berchem, Marc Brys, to Germinal Beerschot. Through his boundless effort he made it to captain, and in seven seasons played more than  200 matches. In March 2009 he broke a bone in his foot, and lost his place in the team. CEO Neel De Ceulaer: “We've been following Kurt for quite a while already. From his time at Lierse I found him a player of considerable character. He's an outstanding right-footed central defender. We were lucky to get him, as there was interest from other teams. That we have 0 points from 5 matches was of no importance for either him or us. We knew that we had to strengthen. We've promised that we would do that and we have done. With Sonck, Kovacs, Gaxa, Notari, Gilberto, Dequevy, Kawashima, Davids, Nicaise, Claasen, De Wree, Sekour and now Van Dooren, our work is complete. Now it's up to the players to perform, and I'm convinced that they will.”
