Following the match last week during the Lierse Fan day, our Lierse Ladies team took part in a tornament in Friesland (Netherlands). An ideal opportunity for Ives Serneels and Johan Breugelmans to see a lot of players in action. A mix of experienced players, homebred players and new youth players had a good first weeks training and were anxious to show their worth. RSC Anderlecht and 2-time Belian Cup winners Sinaai Girls were also represented in the tournament. The German participants had withdrawn at the last minute, but the tournament directors ensured a competitive competition with the inclusion of home team AVC, Be Quick Dokkum and Be Quick Zwolle.
In the first part of the tournament there were wins against RSC Anderlecht (2-1) and Be Quick Zwolle (3-1). Spare time was easily filled with social activity, and room sharing ensured a good mix of young and experienced players. A highly successful first day of teambuilding.
On the 2nd day of the tournament, there were wins against AVC (9-0), Sinaai-Girls (2-0) and Be Quick Dokkum (4-0). In the final our girls again came up against Sinaai-Girls and sealed victory 2-1. Inspired by a tv film on Icelandic footballers, Lien Mermans was picked up like a fish on the end of a line and presented as a trophy to the celebrating squad.
Ives Serneels had been able to try out various play concepts, everyone had enjoyed some playing time, and the good atmosphere in the squad was ably demonstrated by the support given by the older players when the younger ones were in action.
It's too soon for general conclusions. As with some of the other teams represented, the squad was not complete. What can be said is that in terms of preparation, the Lierse Ladies are on schedule. Next weekend there is a 2nd training camp in Blankenberge where Club Brugge will be one of their opponents.
