On Saturday evening Lierse lost the local derby at YRKV Mechelen 1-0. It was ex-Lierse player Yoni Buyens who decided the match with a header in the 62nd minute.

The home team took the early initiative and that resulted in a few chances. Mununga, Nong and Buyens all found Kawashima in their way though. Lierse didn't offer much themselves in the early stages. Dequevy with a shot and Sekour with a header were the only efforts on goal which brought keeper Renard into action.

It was a feisty match, exemplified by three bookings in the first twenty minutes. Dequevy and Camacho for Lierse, Mununga for YRKV. The home team continued to force the pace, but could consider themselves fortunate not to be behind at the break. A nice move by Radzinski who brought Sekour into play. Van Hoevelen snuffed out the danger. Lierse grew in confidence and tried to push forward more. After a more or less even first half it was 0-0 at the break.

In the second half Lierse were the first to come close to scoring. Dequevy received the ball out on the left and tried to curl a shot into the top far corner. Renard with a superb save to turn the shot away for a corner. At the other end Gorius tested Kawashima and Pandza headed wide from a corner. Lierse gradually took more initiative but were unable to create too many clear cut chances. Just past the hour mark every Lierse supporter's worst nightmare came to pass. Yoni Buyens found himself free in the middle and with a lobbed header beat Kawashima: 1-0. YRKV then enjoyed a good spell of play with some good football. Anthuenis made a double change, bringing on Douala and Job for Sekour and Elgabas.

A dangerous counter by the home team. Mununga picked out the free Ghomsi, who had sufficient time to pick his spot, but Kawashima made a fantastic reflex save with his left leg. Davids cleared the danger. Quarter of an hour from time Mo Wahed replaced skipper Jurgen Cavens.
Ten minutes from time Davids with a good run down the right. Job header the cross low to the left of Renard who made a good save.

Douala had one last effort to rescue a point for Lierse but the home team survived. Radzinski with a sprint down the left channel, but his good cross was missed by both Job and Douala. Lierse still pushed on, Job with a header cleared away. The resultant hard shot from Davids was blocked. It was to be Lierse's last chance.

So the Pallieters suffer a painful derby loss to Mechelen and reamin rooted to the bottom of the league together with fellow promovendus Eupen.
