Lierse pulled off a stunning victory at the Lisp on Saturday evening against high flying AA Gent. Chris Janssens' team winning 2-1. 

Lierse went into this match against high flying AA Gent (2nd) without two key players. Stein Huysegems suffered a hamstring injury in training, and Boban Grncarov was serving a one-match suspension for five bookings.

Both sides began the match on the attack. In the early stages the best chances were for Lierse though. After fifteen minutes Bidaoui, who was to have an outstanding match, crossed for Maric. The Serbian was unmarked at the far post, but seemed to hesitate between opting to head or kick the ball, and the ball bobbled wide of the post. Mboyo with a chance at the other end for the Buffalos, Kawashima just able to prevent the visitors taking the lead. Corner for Lierse. Karim Saïdi controlled the ball first time, beat his defender, and fired hard past keeper Boeckx: 1-0. The Tunisian almost doubled his tally a few minutes later when he headed against the outside of the post from another corner. Lierse deservedly leading 1-0 as they headed to the changing room at half time.

The home team began the second half in similar vein. Dodo Elgabas sent through on his own, he beat one defender, but a second proved too much for the young Egyptian. Gent then equalised out of nothing. Via Mboyo, Ljubijankic laid the ball off for Smolders. He beat a helpless Kawashima: 1-1. Straight afterwards Maric with a good chance from a superb pass from Elgabas. The Serbian probably should have done better.

Lierse refused to settle for a point, and went in search of a second goal. Although chances were becoming scarcer. Chris Janssens brought on Hussein Yasser for Lance Davids. Next chance for Lierse as Dodo Elgabas dribbled his way through on Frank Boeckx, who pulled off a good save. For the neutral spectator, it would not have been apparent which team were aiming for first place in the league.

The match appeared to be heading for a draw when Hussein Yasser's shot was only pushed away by Boeckx into the path of Daylon Claasen. The South African made no mistake: 2-1. One final chance for the visitors when substitute Coulibaly's header was well saved by Kawashima. Lierse held on to secure their biggest scalp of the season.
