There was a good attendance on Monday for the benefit match between Lierse and Dutch first division side Willem II. After Friday's defeat against VVV Venlo, Lierse wanted to make a better impression in front of their own supporters.
The home team were well on their way after only three minutes. Corner Nicaise, and the ball deflected in via a Willem II defender: 1-0.
Lierse had the visitors under control. Lierse kept playing out wide and there were some good passing moves. On twenty minutes Tomasz Radzinski on the right wing saw Joeri Dequevy in space. The youngster, who had already scored for Belgium in Slovenia earlier in the week, controlled the ball superbly before beating the keeper with a beautiful lob: 2-0.
The hometeam continued to dictate play, the visitors only sporadically able to test Kujovic. 2-0 to Lierse at half time.
The second half also saw the home side in control. On the hour Sonck seized onto a poorly played back pass, and made it 3-0. Game over. For Willem II Giovani Gravenbeek found himself through on Kujovic but the Serbian kept him out, and kept a clean sheet, thanks in no small part to a secure defence.
So Lierse can go into Saturday's home league match against AA Gent full of confidence.
