Update 14.00:
The condition of Maged is good considering the circumstances. He has a broken nose and cuts to the face caused by shards of glass. He also needed stitches to his eye, but the eye itself was not touched. He has been complaining of a pain in his hand, and will have a scan later today. It may be that he has suffered a fracture.

In the meantime the club has received messages of support from many quarters. Some people have even asked if it would be possible to visit Maged in hospital. Having consulted the medical staff at the hospital we would ask that people do not visit at this time. Although Maged's condition is good, bearing in mind the circumstances. He is however recovering from a very major accient. He needs to rest. Camera teams and photographers are also not being allowed into the hospital. We count on your understanding.

Lierse president Maged Samy was seriously injured in a car accident in the early hours of this morning, but his injuries are not life threatening.

Maged's car was in collision with a lorry on the E34, near Lille around 3.30 am. His car was forced under the lorry and Maged suffered injuries to his legs, chest and eyes. He was alone in the car. The fire brigade had to lift his car with the aid of airbags to free Maged. But he remained conscious the whole time. He was transported to Turnhout hospital, where his condition was described as satisfactory.

As soon as we have any more news, it will be posted on the website
