On Saturday evening the WD Lierse Ladies team opened their first season in the top division with a 2-0 home win against Zuid-West Vlaanderen.
Lien Mermans opened the scoring on twenty minutes with a majestic free kick. An own goal in stoppage time completed the scoring.

It promised to be a nice evening at the Lisp. There were 180 diners in the business seats and the main stand was well filled.

WD Lierse Camped in the opposition half from the start of the match and it stayed that way for the remainder of the match. The home team combined freely and seemed to always find the right option. Despite a host of chances, it took twenty minutes for the first goal to arrive. From a handball just outside the penalty area, WD Lierse were awarded a free kick. Specialist Lien Mermans took the responsibility and curled an unbelievably perfect free kick into the lrft top corner. A real pearl of a goal to make it 1-0.

The home team remained on all out attack and created a cartload of chances but the goals didn't arrive, mainly due to the visitors keeper. Only in injury time did an unfortunate own goal double Lierse's advantage.

WD Lierse immediately went top of the league in the newly reformed league.
