The Frenchman Benjamin Nicaise (28/09/80) has tonight signed a three year contract with K. Lierse SK. Nicaise has previously played for Nancy, Metz and Amiens in the French league before moving to Belgium. Here he first played for Bergen, (when in the First Division) and after that for Standard Liège. He was part of Standard's Championship winning team in 2009, and twice won the Supercup with them: in 2008 and 2009.

Nicaise is een right footed defensive midfielder. He is a hard worker with a strong tackle. Bone hard, it's sometimes said. He's just the sort of player that gets stuck into every challenge.

CEO Neel De Ceulaer: “ Benjamin is just the type of player we were looking for. A strong multi functional player, who can play as defensive midfielder or central defender. In any case a very hard worker. There were other teams interested in him, FC Twente (Holland) among them, but ultimately he's chosen for Lierse. Together with Daylon Claasen, who's also signed with us today, we've acquired an absolute strengthening for our midfield. “

Benjamin Nicaise: “I've chosen Lierse because I feel that there is a very interesting sporting project under way here. I like that. Also the fact that it's a club with such a rich history. I know that Lierse has worked it's way up out of a big hole, and I really like the mentality. Now I really want to do my best to ensure that the club can reach it's objectives. Finally I would like to thank the Lierse management for their patience and of course for the faith they've shown in me.”
