On Friday afternoon Lierse won their friendly against the Egyptian first division team El-Ittihad 2-1. The match took place in a magnificent stadium, and was broadcast live on 2 Egyptian channels. Thirty-five Lierse supporters attended the match. Kick-off was at 1.30 pm Belgium time.

For Lierse Jurgen Cavens and Kevin Janssens didn't take part as a precaution. Radzinski and Shokry formed the attack, Dreesen and Frans the central defensive partnership. Samir, who played in Alexandria, was team captain.

In the 9th minute Mo Wahed found himself free, and fired home the opening goal from outside the penalty area. Lierse had the match immediately under control. Our lads created a couple more chances, including a shot from Shokry against the post, and Radzinksi who fired over from close range. The Egyptian opponents were only able to threaten once, but Kujovic made a good save.

At half time Kujovic and Radzinski were replaced by Winothai and Goris. The same pattern of play, Lierse dominated, and often threatened the opponents goal. From a well constructed attack in the 55th minute, Bojovic fired in a good shot, the keeper spilled it, and a well positioned Shokry was able to make it 2-0 from close range. Just afterwards Winothai stole the ball away from the last defender, found himself alone in front of goal, but the Thai shot over the bar. A quarter of an hour from time, the referee saw something which nobody else did, a foul from Dreesen and a penalty. Unjust, but the penalty was tucked away, and it was 2-1 for Lierse. The Egyptians threatened still, but couldn't manage an equaliser.

Een verdiende zege voor Lierse, dat morgen terugkeert naar Caïro, zaterdag en zondag nog telkens 1 traint in Wadi Degla El Maadi, en zondagnamiddag terugkeert naar België.
