Ives Serneels, ex-Lierse player and current Lierse youth co-ordinator, will be the trainer of the new Lierse womens team.
After taking over current first division side Vlimmeren, Lierse will take their place in the new Elite League next season. That is a division which will be created above the current first division in womens football. The idea is to make womens football more attractive and competitive in Belgium.
Ives Serneels: “I don't want to use the word ‘challenge' in the wrong context, but it's really the right word. We of course had our own womens team already, but with this new structure the future of womens football looks very promising. There is a lot of quality there. So it's time that this sport is taken out of the forgotten corner. I'm really happy that I can play a role in that.”
